What is DBT Intensive Training?
DBT Intensive Training is a comprehensive, team-based program designed to equip mental health professionals with the theoretical knowledge, clinical skills, and implementation strategies required to deliver standard Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Originally developed in the 1980s, DBT is a highly evidence-based treatment for individuals experiencing severe emotional dysregulation. Over decades, it has proven effective across cultures, contexts, and clinical settings worldwide.
This training equips the clinicians and teams who wish to implement DBT programs with knowledge, skill, and a high level of fidelity to evidence-based models.
Why Does DBT Learning Matter in India’s Mental Health Landscape?
Mental health remains a critical priority area in India. Rising concerns around:
- Suicide is the leading cause of death among 15–29-year-olds in India.
- Increasing emotional dysregulation among adolescents and adults
- Burnout among frontline mental health workers
- Mental health professionals frequently encounter high-risk cases but lack access to specialized training.
- DBT is one of the few treatments with strong evidence for reducing death by suicide.
What Does Global DBT Research Show
- 50% reduction in suicide attempts compared to treatment-as-usual.
- 70% reduction in self-harm behaviors in youth DBT programs.
- Significant decline in inpatient hospitalizations.
- Higher engagement and lower dropout compared to non-DBT interventions.
- Improved functioning and emotional regulation across diverse populations.
This training focuses on both the establishment of comprehensive DBT programs and the development of clinical skills required to effectively treat high-risk, multi-problem clients, including dedicated instruction in risk assessment, risk management, and the treatment of suicidal behaviors, comprising four hours of specialized content, while providing Indian clinicians access to the gold-standard, evidence-based DBT model backed by decades of research.
